Teachers fear for their jobs at a Belvidere high school, now they take a vote of no confidence in some Belvidere High School administrators. On Monday, board members voted to make cuts across the district, now teachers are voting. But that vote,
they say, reflects poor leadership at Belvidere High School.”We feel, the high school staff, the Belvidere High School staff has felt that it did happen there,
” said BEA President Mark Luthin.Like many careers, those of educators are evaluated. Principals and other administration give evaluations. Those evaluations, should objectively reflect performance. Some teachers at Belvidere High School feel their evaluations are anything but objective. Now, five of those teachers don have a job with the district 100 next school year.”More than a few teachers felt targeted by these administrators and because they were targeted,
they feel they received low evaluation and five of those teachers ended up being riffed the other night and these are veteran teachers,” said Luthin. “Our evaluation plan was not designed to target specific people, it was designed. It was designed to be a collaborative process.”Collaborate is what the Belvidere Education Association has done to deliver a letter, stating they no longer have confidence in BHS Principal,
Dr. Todd Martens and two of his assistant principals.”Obviously something broken and something needs to be fixed and hopefully something can be fixed because we dealing with a lot of people lives,” said Luthin.I visited BHS, Dr. Martens and assistant principals were in a meeting and could not speak with me. I also left a message for Dr. Martens in the principal office.
