After revealing that Manchester institution Afflecks is full for the first time we were inundated with memories from readers about unusual things you have bought there.
Laura Hulse said: “I used to buy old ladies dresses from there to wear with DMs in the late 80s. I can still remember the musty smell of them now. Always 808 State playing on the ground floor.”
While Deborah Pass remembers a treasured item she bought from Afflecks in the 1980s.
“In about 1985, I bought a beautiful long dress, made in a sort of transparent tafita, dark blue with gold flowers, cinched at the waist and shoulders with velvet.
“It was gorgeous! I remember many a night in UMIST and Gilly’s wearing this. I lost it somewhere in Europe,
to my everlasting despair. I still think about this dress.”
