A jealous man who posted a ‘sexually explicit’ image of his ex girlfriend online in an act of revenge has avoided jail.

Jamie Matthews, 24, shared the image of his former partner showing her breasts on Facebook and with friends in a Whatsapp messenger group.

Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court heard Matthews split up with his partner of five years earlier this year.

They moved apart from each other and several weeks after the break up the woman received an anonymous phone call in the early hours of the morning on October 20.

The victim immediately recognised it was Matthews and hung up.

Later she received another call from a friend claiming Matthews put an intimate image of her online.

Although the image did not show her face, Matthews wrote a caption saying “look what the ex has sent me now.”

The court heard the image had been taken by the victim herself and sent to Matthews earlier on in their relationship.

Later on that day the victim received another phone call from Matthews who threatened to share more private images of her online.

During the phone call he also threatened to stab the victim and another woman.

Prosecuting, Danielle Allanson said the victim has been left “distressed” following the incident.

In an impact statement read out in court she said: “He does have other private images of me and I am concerned he will send these to the public domain now.”

In an earlier hearing Matthews admitted sending the photographs, but pleaded not guilty to the malicious phone calls.

He was found guilty of both charges following a trial.

Matthews, of Ruskin Road, Reddish, was handed a 16 week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months, with a 20 day rehabilitation requirement.

He must also attend a relationships programme, and pay a court fine of District Judge Mark Hadfield said he could not accept the defendant showed any “remorse” to his former partner.

He said: “Not content with just posting the sexual image on Facebook and Whatsapp, seen immediately by at least one of her friends, you made threats later in the day on the phone.
