He was born on Nov. 7, 1955, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Harry Dean and Maxine (Chandler) Martens. Jon was a 1974 graduate of North Platte High School.
After high school, Jon attended Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado, on a cross country scholarship, where he met and later married Montelle Severin. To that union they had one daughter, Gabrielle Severin Martens.
After college, Jon worked in retail sporting goods until June 2008. He joined Eastern Colorado Services for Developmentally Disabled as a security support provider until his passing.
Jon will be remembered for his love of travel, coffee making, Brandy making, his cooking skills and running with his dogs. Even after moving to Colorado, Jon remained a loyal Nebraska Cornhusker fan.
Jon was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Melinda E. Martens Sagiao; and mother in law and father in law, Sarah and George Severin.
Survivors include A. Montelle Martens; daughter and son in law, Gabrielle (Adam) Kunkel, of Sterling; sister and brother in law, Michele (Charlie) Klingler and family, of Nebraska; sister in law and brother in law, Troy and Tom Stasenka and family, of Brighton, Colorado; and additional family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Michele D. Klingler, 1303 Pleasant St., Hastings, NE 68901.
A celebration of Jon’s life was on May 23 at Tennant Funeral Home, Sterling, Colorado.
